Such a fantastic conversation with George Torok on his Your Intended Message podcast. Join the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/gq7mQjen.
George is an industry pro who’s been speaking, training, and coaching for over 25 years and author of over 500 articles and six ebooks on the power of hashtag#CorporateStorytelling – we had loads of great territory to cover together! 🏆
We discussed the three pillars of winning communication: value, passion, and connection. And why leadership creates and proves charisma rather than the other way around. It’s a challenge I hear the people I coach face all the time; “I’m not a good speaker! I’m not naturally funny! I get so nervous!” Leadership is about uplifting and supporting others, not just about our own ability to command the stage. 🌟
One of my favorite parts of this podcast was a deep discussion on the interplay of status. When we’re confident in our abilities and knowledge, that security allows us to negate the insecurity of others by making gifting them higher status during our interactions.
We can choose to command and control others with our high status in order to keep them beneath us (sound like anyone you know or may be on your ballot??) Or we can choose to uplift and encourage others by making them more secure, knowing we don’t diminish our own power by doing so. 🎁
And we touched on why scripts are your friend up right up until they moment they become your foe. Why the best presentations don’t require a single slide. And my mantra: Don’t tell them what you want to tell them; tell them what they want to hear.
Thanks so much to George and to his savvy, engaged audience. Honored to join you all in this value-driven room! ⚡️💡
